About Amanda

A grounded human, first. A therapist, second.

I became a therapist because I got tired of watching people I love keep everything held together on the outside while quietly falling apart on the inside. This is the work I wish more people had access to — and it's the work I love doing.

Amanda Edwards, LCSW

I'm Amanda Edwards, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Colorado. I work virtually with adults, couples, parents, current and former athletes, professionals, and folks in recovery — people who are, on paper, "doing fine," and who know underneath that something has to change. I especially love helping clients who want movement, breath, or body awareness to be part of the work.

My philosophy is simple: therapy should feel collaborative, not clinical. I combine evidence-based approaches with genuine curiosity, compassion, humor, and the kind of honesty you'd want from a trusted friend who also happens to know the science.

Outside the (virtual) office, you'll find me on a trail, at a climbing wall, or with a cup of coffee somewhere with a good view. Movement, nature, and the mind-body connection show up in how I work — because I've experienced firsthand how much they matter.

Also worth mentioning: I have a rescue mutt therapy dog in training named Summit. He has no formal credentials yet, questionable boundaries, and a strong opinion that every video session should end with at least one belly rub. He'll occasionally photobomb our call. Most clients consider this a feature, not a bug.

How I work

Evidence-based, but never sterile.

Every person walks in with their own story, so I don't use one framework for everyone. I draw from whatever's going to be most useful for the human sitting across from me.

CBT & DBT

Practical tools for anxious thoughts, big emotions, and the patterns you can't seem to break on your own.

ACT & Mindfulness

Making room for what's hard so you can move toward what actually matters to you.

Somatic therapy

Because trauma and stress live in the body too — and talk therapy alone isn't always enough.

Strengths-based & trauma-informed

You are not a diagnosis. Everything I do is grounded in respect for what you've already survived.

What to expect from me

More than a nod and a notepad.

You don't need someone who just nods while you talk. You deserve a therapist who's fully present, asks the hard questions with compassion, and helps you leave each session understanding yourself a little better — with a clear sense of what comes next.

I've sat with people through panic attacks, grief, addiction, relationship struggles, trauma, burnout, and big life transitions. When your brain is racing through worst-case scenarios before your first cup of coffee, we don't stay stuck there. We pull out the toolbox and build practical skills to calm your nervous system, challenge anxious thoughts, and help you feel more in control.

Therapy with me isn't just a place to tell your story — it's a place to understand it. I'll help you make sense of why your brain reacts the way it does, why your body stays on high alert, and why some patterns are so hard to break. When you understand what's happening underneath, shame starts to lose its grip.

Healing happens in both the mind and the body. That might look like grounding skills, tuning into your nervous system, or reconnecting through movement, time outside, or just noticing the breath you've been holding for way too long. This isn't about forcing yourself to "think positive" — it's about working with your mind and body instead of fighting them.

I won't rush to fill every silence. Some of the most meaningful moments happen in the quiet, and I'll give them the space they deserve. I also won't let you convince yourself you're incapable of change — I'll celebrate your strengths, gently challenge the beliefs keeping you stuck, and offer honest accountability when you need it.

My goal isn't for you to need therapy forever. It's for you to leave with the confidence and tools to trust yourself long after our sessions end. You already have many of the strengths you need. Sometimes they're just buried under years of surviving. My job is to help you dig them back up.
